- IMPORTANT NOTE: Beginning in August 2008, incoming Ph.D. students will be expected to take the new system of qualifying examinations. Under the new system, each Ph.D. student will be required to finish qualifying exams by the end of his/her first year in the Ph.D. program. A description of the new system will be available soon.
- Graduate student, Hengguang Li, has been named one of three coequal winners of the Student Paper Competition for the 13th Copper Mountain Conference on Multigrid Methods, March 19-23, 2007. The award includes travel expenses to attend the conference and present the paper.
- Our student, Chris George, has won this year's university-wide Graduate Assistant Outstanding Teaching Award. The list of past recipients shows that we have a very solid tradition of winners in Math!
- Recently our first-year graduate student, Ryan Daut, walked away $1.5 million richer when he won the PokerStars.com Caribbean Adventure tournament.
- Exceptionally strong applications from domestic students are now considered for spring admission.
- The department may offer up to two very special Dwyer Graduate Fellowships, made possible through the generosity of Terence J. and Jane Dwyer.
- Bryce Weaver (Adviser: A. Katok) and Jiakou Wang (Adviser: Qiang Du) are the recipients of the Pritchard Fellowship for the Spring 2007 semester. These Fellowships are awarded in recognition of very high quality of the recipient's thesis work.
- Congratulations to Hengguang Li and Mike Rowell as the recipients of the Departmental Graduate Assistant Teaching Awards for the Fall 2006 semester. These awards are given by the department to TAs who have made an outstanding contribution to teaching as determined by faculty visits, student evaluations, and solicited and unsolicited student comments.
